Tour the USS Iowa

Over the past few weeks, when we hear “Iowa” we only think one thing. But here is to think about Iowa in a different way: go visit USS Iowa, now placed in Richmond until the end of January.

USS Iowa (BB-61) was the first of four “USS Wisconsin (in Norfolk, VA).

For history and military buffs in the Bay Area, this is a great opportunity to walk the last ship, the deck of the largest, fastest and most powerful (16-inch guns gave her the nickname)

Iowa was launched on 27 August 1942, transferred to the Marshall Islands to begin a long history. He served on the battleship Yamato Japan was the heaviest (also play a role in the battle of Leyte Gulf).

We have spent the weekend with my people, who rent cabins at Inverness, near Point Reyes, and we’re looking for a more interesting way to get home rather than just plain, U.S.-101-to-the-Golden Gate-Bridge-to-19th-Street-to-I-280 route.
